Working in the Pakistan Resident Mission, Umar Ali Shah is the country focal point for ADB’s urban operations in Pakistan. Prior to joining ADB in 2018, Umar worked as an International Consultant with MDBs across 7 countries for over 15 years, specializing in project planning, development, and service delivery. He provided technical support for the appraisal and implementation of urban, transport, and disaster risk reduction projects in Central, West, and Southeast Asian countries. Umar holds a master’s degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences from the University of Manchester, UK, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from UET, Peshawar, Pakistan.

Current Role: Currently working as Principal Project Officer in the Water and Urban Development Sector Office (SD2) at ADB. Leading a team that supports sustainable urban development and water service delivery in Pakistan, collaborating closely with governments and development partners on technical, safeguards, financial management, and project implementation.
