ATTY. LESLEY Y. CORDERO is a Lead Disaster Risk Management Specialist for Bangladesh and Bhutan at the World Bank based in Dhaka. Lesley was a former Lead DRM Specialist and Program Leader for Sustainable Development (SD) in Pakistan. She coordinated the SD and Infrastructure programs in Pakistan covering projects on Agriculture and Food, Climate Change, Environment, Social Development, Water, Urban, DRM, and Land. Mainstreaming the DRM agenda, Lesley was the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) Regional Coordinator for East Asia and the Pacific. She managed a 2.5-billion-dollar DRM program in the Philippines and East Asia. She worked on innovative policies and instruments such as recovery frameworks; adaptive social protection; resilient infrastructure; local government catastrophe risk insurance; and contingent financing facility for climate and disasters. She worked on DRM projects in Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, China, and Fiji Islands. Before joining the Bank, Lesley served as an Undersecretary (Deputy Minister) at the Office of the President of the Republic of the Philippines. She coordinated the disaster recovery efforts of the Government for Typhoons Bopha in 2012 and Haiyan in 2013. Lesley served as Undersecretary at the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) in 2011 and a Commissioner at the National Youth Commission in 2010. Lesley has a Juris Doctor of Laws degree from the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law, and a master’s degree in National Security Administration at the National Defense College of the Philippines. Lesley is also a commissioned officer of the Philippine Army Reserve Force with a rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
